The ongoing shortage of skilled workers in the region will not be stopped in short term. This became clear once again at the 21st business breakfast of the Wirtschaftsförderungs- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft of the district of Steinfurt (WESt) and the IHK Nord Westfalen at Jüke Systemtechnik in Altenberge.

Klaus Weßendorf, Deputy Chairman of the IHK regional committee for the district of Steinfurt, reported of many vacant apprenticeships, which worried the companies increasingly. He advised the approximately 50 participants: “Work together with schools, make your trainees fit for the function of an ambassador and send them out to schools. This is how you can achieve a career orientation at eye level.” But Weßendorf also had good news. He informed about the results of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce survey: “The export is going forward, money is available and the companies are investing again”.

In his welcome speech District Administrator Dr. Klaus Effing pointed to the currently good economic development of the district, which in his opinion, could allow for an unemployment rate of less than four percent. “More dual education can also help achieve this goal,” said Effing. “At the same time, dual training is also an important foundation for securing skilled labor. Therefore, this method of training has to be strengthened by more trainee places in our region.” Effing also said that this training had to be well communicated, and praised the way that JÜKE has taken to securing skilled workers. “The company is exemplary for the good cooperation between companies and the local University of Applied Sciences. I hope that many more companies will use the potential of our University so intensively. Early contact with graduates creates perspectives for both sides.”

Afterwards, JÜKE CEO Heinrich Jürgens gave an exciting insight into the nearly 100 employees strong company. Among other things, Jürgens explained the requirements by the recently adopted Medical Devices Regulation. “Although this regulation is a challenge, it is also a real opportunity for us as an experienced and competent service provider in medical technology and optical technology.” A comprehensive picture of the company’s services and products was provided by the entrepreneurs during the factory tour at JÜKE.
